Helping Children with Autism package.
Up to 35% of FaHCSIA funding can be used on appropriate resources to a maximum of $4200.00 in total

Pyramid Approach Series

Pyramid Educational Consultants (www.pecs.com), the world’s premier educational developmental training organisation, is pleased to announce the successful launch of its new Pyramid Approach Basic Training and the dates for future training sessions.

Developed by Pyramid’s co-founder, Andy Bondy, Ph.D., and associates Amanda Reed, B.App. Sc., M.A., Anthony Castrogiovanni, Ph.D., and Anne Overcash, M.Ed., the newest of the Pyramid Approach Series training programs – The Pyramid Approach Basic Training – was launched on January 25 and 26, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The program was an immediate success with participants.

Tailored for teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, paraprofessionals, and parents, caregivers, and others who work with individuals who have special learning needs, the new Pyramid Approach Basic Training that focuses on the Pyramid Approach to Education provides a comprehensive framework for establishing effective learning environments – anywhere and everywhere – and the foundation for a positive environment for growth. The Pyramid Approach Basic Training emphasises how to teach, rather than simply what to teach. The net result of this process is a high-level learning outcome that encourages independence and cooperation, improves behaviour, and reinforces communication in the home, school and the community.

The Pyramid Approach Basic Training is perfect for anyone who wants to better understand how individuals learn – and therefore how to teach them. Using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), the Pyramid Approach to Education emphasises the importance of functional objectives that directly address skills the learner needs to perform in his or her daily environment, and provides powerful reinforcement systems to promote learning and performance of those skills. In addition, the Pyramid Approach to Education focuses on the management of contextually inappropriate behaviours.

Participants that attend the Pyramid Approach Basic Training learn about:
• Using motivational strategies and powerful reinforcers
• Teaching functional communication skills
• Creating opportunities for learning
• Teaching techniques (prompts, shaping, correcting errors)
• Managing challenging behaviour
• Evaluating Progress

As part of the Pyramid Approach Basic Training, each participant receives a free copy of The Pyramid Approach to Education in Autism, by Andy Bondy, Ph.D. and Beth Sulzer-Azaroff, Ph.D.

The Pyramid Approach Basic Training consists of thirteen contact hours spread across two-days. The schedule for the remainder of the year is now set for:

Sydney, New South Wales - 13th & 14th September, 2010
Brisbane, Queensland - 16th & 17th September, 2010
Auckland, New Zealand - 20th & 21st September, 2010
